Bison Rowers Earn a Win and a Second-Place Finish at Cooper Invitational

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- Highlighted by a victory in the Grand Final in the Second Varsity Eight and a second-place finish in the Varsity Eight, the Bucknell rowing team enjoyed a strong day at the Cooper Invitational on the Cooper River.

"It was a solid and fulfilling day of racing," said head coach Stephen Kish. "Every crew attacked and accomplished the goal they had set for themselves."

The 1V8+, led by coxswain Natalie Minella and stroked by Olivia Chase, won its heat with a time of 7:04.75, then improved to 6:58.78 in a runner-up finish in the Grand Final. Eastern Michigan won the event in 6:57.09, just over a second faster than the Bison. Marist (7:00.43), Villanova (7:07.87), Delaware (7:10.36) and Duquesne (7:22.38) rounded out the race.

Bucknell had two entries in the 2V8+, and the Bison A boat earned first-place medals. After posting a time of 7:15.85 in the morning heat, the Bison covered the 2,000-meter course in 7:06.03 to nose out Villanova by just .16 seconds. Bucknell's 2V8+ B boat also made the Grand Final and finished sixth in 7:34. 28. Eastern Michigan, Marist and Delaware took places 3-5.

The Bison also entered a Freshman 8, which placed second in its heat (7:55.97) and third in the final (7:30.70) behind Eastern Michigan and Villanova.
