LEWISBURG, Pa. – Tyler Wincig was named Patriot League Player of the Week, and Will Gannon earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors as Bucknell took two of the top three weekly awards after a 4-2 week, including winning four of its last five games to close the season.
Wincig batted .500 (9-for-18) over the six-game stretch while slugging .667. He hit the go-ahead two-run single in a game one win over Lehigh, and also managed to score six runs while driving in eight RBIs. Wincig, who was second in the Patriot League batting title race entering the weekend at .330, now sits at .348 on the season .07 ahead of Navy's Zach Stevens. Wincig drew 29 walks this season, tied for tenth-most in Bucknell single-season history, and hit eight home runs, the most by a Bison player since Sam Clark in 2017. His 40 hits this season are a career-best, and his 28 RBIs in 2019 are just one short of doubling his RBI output from his first two seasons combined. Wincig finished his junior campaign tied for 20th in NCAA Division I in on-base percentage at .500.
Gannon posted a tremendous week for the Orange and Blue after playing sparingly to open most of the season. The freshman from Red Bank, N.J. hit .462 with three runs and seven RBIs, including four RBIs in Bucknell's come-from-behind win over La Salle on Wednesday, April 24. Gannon had a slugging percentage of .846 and a .462 on-base percentage. He hit his third home run of the year in game two against Lafayette on Saturday, and went 3-for-5 in the win over La Salle.
