WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A successful Bucknell women's tennis season came to a close Saturday with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded Boston University in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Tournament at the Central PA Tennis Center.
The Bison, who entered as the fourth-seeded team and advanced with a 4-0 win over Loyola (Md.) in the quarterfinals, wrap up the season with an impressive 14-7 record. They played in the semifinal round for the first time since 2016.
"Every single player worked so hard on so many aspects of their game this year, doing so physically, tactically, and mentally," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. "The improvements I saw were really impressive and it definitely was one of the most fun seasons I've had. We learned to just put it all out there and not let the little things get in our way. We went out there swinging today and played with a lot of grit. Boston played just a little better."
Mishi Papich and Jill Auteri took a 4-0 lead on court three doubles and were leading 5-4 when play was halted after the doubles point was clinched. The duo finished the spring with a 12-7 record.
Cayla Koch led 6-3, 2-1 in her match against Remi Ramos on court two before Boston University clinched the team win. Ramos was the 2017 Patriot League Player of the Year and a Second Team All-Conference selection in 2018. Koch finished 15-5 during the spring season.
Boston University improved to 14-8 overall with its second straight shutout win in the tournament. The Terriers will play third-seeded Army West Point in the championship match on Sunday. The title contest will be played at noon at the Central PA Tennis Center.
