HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Bucknell men's golf team was tied for second place at the conclusion of the first round and then moved into a tie for the lead when play at the Patriot League Championship was suspended due to inclement weather as the teams were just beginning second-round play. The Bison are tied with Lafayette at 12-over par, with only two strokes separating the top five teams. Weather permitting, play will resume on Sunday at 8 a.m.
The weather was a major storyline on day one of the Patriot League Championship, with cold temperatures, wind, rain, and even a little snow greeting the players at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Club. Bucknell posted a 12-over-par 300 in the opening round and had yet to get going in the second round when play was stopped. Lehigh opened with a 299, followed by Bucknell, Colgate and Lafayette at 300, Navy at 301, Army at 302, Loyola at 305 and Holy Cross at 311.
Peter Bradbeer and Chris Tanabe led the way for the Bison in round one with matching 2-over-par 74s. Both players made three birdies with five bogeys, and they are tied for seventh place in the field of 48 players.
Jubal Early and Jason Lohwater both followed with 76s. Connor O'Brien's 77 and J.P. Raftery's 78 were not used in the Patriot League's play-six, count-four format. Bucknell's 14 birdies thus far in the tough scoring conditions are the most in the field.
Will Halamdaris of Lafayette is the individual leader at 2-under par, one shot better than Chad Deegan of Navy.
