Bison Notes
- JohnPaul Bell drove in five runs for the second time this season in Tuesday's 9-8 win over Towson.
- An error on a sharply hit ball to first by Bell, followed by consecutive two-RBI singles in big spots with the bases loaded helped Bell tie his career-high for RBIs in a single game.
- Bell's other five-RBI game came in a narrow 8-12 loss over then No. 21 NC State.
- The native of Downingtown, Pa. gave Bucknell a 7-4 lead over the Wolfpack in that game on a two-run home run to left field in the seventh inning, but Bucknell eventually fell, 12-8, in Raleigh.
- The Wolfpack have been ranked as high as No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball poll, and are currently 29-5 this season.
- The Bison are one of only four teams to plate eight or more runs against NC State this season, with South Carolina, NC Central, and then-No. 1 Florida State the other three.
- Tyler Wincig is now up to five home runs on the year, becoming just the third Bison player to belt five home runs in a single season since 2016, joining Bell (5, 2018) and Sam Clark (9, 2017),
- Tuesday's win for Bucknell over Towson was the third win for the Bison this season when trailing after five innings.
- Bucknell used four runs in the sixth to take the lead for good, led by Bell's two-RBI single, an RBI single from Wincig, and a double steal that allowed Dominic Toso to score from third base.
- The Bison received several contributions from freshman on Tuesday, with Brendan Lowery providing a run scored after stealing third and scoring from an error, and a first career save from Andrew Funovits in his fourth career appearance.
- In eight innings played this season, Funovits has allowed six hits, struck out five, and has an ERA of 1.13.
- Funovits pitched three innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just two hits and striking out three to earn the save and give Bucknell its third win by a one-run margin this season.
- Funovits is now one of three Bison to earn a save this season along with Hunter Robichaux and Brenden Tuttle.
- In the last eight games for Bucknell, Wincig has posted an average of .500 with 13 hits and four home runs. He's also slugging .962 during that time frame.
- Also during that time span, Luke Hartman has posted an on-base percentage of .447 and has drawn eight walks.
- Nicholas Sadd earned his second career win in the win over Towson to improve to 2-1 this season.
- Robichaux has posted an ERA of 1.69 in four appearances and 10.2 innings played in conference games this season.
- Holy Cross is also 10-24 this season, but has a 5-5 record in conference play.
- The Crusaders are coming off back-to-back wins at Rhode Island on Wednesday and at Navy on Sunday.
- Holy Cross played the League-leading Mids close in all three games as Navy took two out of three in the series.
- The Mids took the first two by scores of 3-1 and 4-3, before Holy Cross came back in the finale with a 4-1 win.
- Ben Malgeri leads the Crusaders with a .314 average, while Austin Masel leads the team with 17 RBIs.
- Liam Dvorak is 502 this season with a 2.76 ERA and 49 strikeouts.
- Bucknell split in Worcester earlier this season, defeating the Crusaders 8-4 in game one before dropping a 5-4 decision in game two.
- Miles Moore recorded a two-RBI double in game one, while Dominic Toso was 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI. Moore also picked up two hits in the second game of the doubleheader.
- Bucknell is 60-57 all-time against the Crusaders.
- The Bison will play a midweek game at home vs. Navy on Wednesday.
