VESTAL, N.Y. – Bucknell's Zach Hartman and Drew Phipps advanced to the semifinals at the EIWA Championships on Friday night.
Hartman, the top seed at 157 pounds, and Phipps, the sixth seed at 197 pounds, will compete for a spot in the EIWA title bout tomorrow at 10 a.m. Each also punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships, slated for March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Hartman didn't cede a single point on the opening day of the EIWA Championships, topping Quentin Hovis (Navy) in the round of 16 by a 1-0 decision and eighth-seeded Kizhan Clarke (American) by a 3-1 decision in the quarterfinals. Hartman used a third-period escape to edge Hovis; he then dispatched Clarke by scoring a third-period reversal and earning the riding-time point.
With his pair of victories, Phipps extended his winning streak to 14 bouts. His active win streak is the longest recorded by a Bison this season. Over its course, he has registered bonus points in six bouts, with two technical falls and four major decisions.
Jakob Campbell (125), Noah Levett (141), Matthew Kolonia (149) and Kyle Inlander (184) each earned his first postseason victory, with Campbell and Inlander's coming in the championship round of 16 and Levett and Kolonia's coming in the first consolation round of eight. Campbell edged eighth-seeded Trey Keeley (Brown) in the second tiebreaker period after forcing overtime with a takedown in the final 30 seconds; Inlander was a 5-3 victor over Anthony Cable (Navy) in sudden victory.
In addition, wrestling up a weight class, Geo Barzona (133) scored his second career postseason victory. Barzona and Levett both won by technical fall in the first consolation round of eight.
With the EIWA boasting six automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Championships at 157 and 197 pounds, Hartman and Phipps are assured a spot. By advancing to the semifinals, neither can finish lower than sixth.

Earlier this year, when Caywood was ranked fourth by Intermat, Phipps upset the Army West Point senior by a 7-3 decision on the road. Phipps was bolstered by a two-point nearfall and a late takedown during the second period. It was his second career victory over a nationally ranked wrestler and his first at 197 pounds.Congrats to Drew Phipps, who punched his 🎟️ to the @NCAAWrestling Championships tonight! #rayBucknell pic.twitter.com/8V0yV4AXqg
