CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Julie Byrne and Abigail Rosenberg represented the Bucknell women's swimming & diving team on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league office announced Wednesday morning.Â
Both three-time members of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, the seniors earned their first Academic All-Patriot League nod after helping the Bison place third at the Patriot League Championships. Bucknell's finish was its highest since 2015, when it was the runner-up.
Byrne, an All-Patriot League First Team honoree, placed eighth among all women's swimmers with 47 points. The Early Childhood Education major captured a silver medal in the 200 backstroke, took bronze in the 200 IM and placed fifth in the 100 backstroke. During the 200 backstroke preliminaries, she clocked in at an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:57.11. She was also a member of the third-place 400 medley relay and sixth-place 200 freestyle relay teams.
Rosenberg, an All-Patriot League Second Team selection, was key to Bucknell's relay success in 2019. The Managing for Sustainability major was a member of all three third-place relay teams: the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay teams, two of which set school records. She also was on the fourth-place 400 freestyle relay team. Individually, she took fifth in the 200 freestyle, eighth in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 50 freestyle, totaling 30 points for the Bison; she shaved .01 of a second off her school record in the 100 freestyle during the preliminaries, timing in at 50.41.
Rosenberg was previously recognized on the 2017 All-Patriot League First Team while Byrne was a 2017 All-Patriot League Second Team honoree. In addition, Byrne was a 2018 and 2017 CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-American.
