LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell field hockey team established itself as one of the best academic programs in the nation this season, as evident with the release of the NFHCA Academic Awards on Monday. The Bison received the National Academic Team Award with a 3.57 GPA, and tied for second in the nation with 20 players named to the Division I National Academic Squad.
Bucknell's 20 players on the National Academic Squad were up from 15 just a season ago. Miami (Ohio) had the most honorees in the nation with 21.
The Bison had three players – senior Claire Lesher, junior Marisa Morakis, and senior Nicole Rupnik – named Scholars of Distinction. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete had to post at least a 3.9 cumulative GPA during the fall semester.
Morakis, a biomedical engineering major, and Rupnik, a biology major, each earned the Scholar of Distinction honor for a third time. Lesher, an international relations/Spanish major, picked up the award for a second time.
