ORLANDO, Fla. – Bucknell women's tennis wrapped up its four-match trip to Orlando with a 5-2 loss to Western Carolina on Friday at the Lake Kane Tennis Center. The Bison head back to Lewisburg with a 9-3 record on the season.
The Bison secured the doubles point for the third straight match. Daniela Bellini and Sofia Ayuso were 7-5 winners over Jordan Strickland and Savannah Taranto on court one, while Danielle Gannon and Cayla Koch came out on top by the same score over Lauren McCall and Alexa Webb on court three.
Both wins were solid for Bucknell. Bellini and Ayuso's opponents were 10-4 on the season, with all 14 matches being played on court one. Gannon and Koch's opponents entered the match at 6-1.
Ayuso was Bucknell's lone singles winner. She defeated Taranto, 7-5, 4-6, 12-10, on court four.
Bucknell was playing without its No. 3 player in the lineup, Paige Leavy.
"This was a tough match to lose, but we played with a lot of guts and it was a very good, high energy match," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said.
Western Carolina improved to 10-6 with a fifth consecutive win.
Bucknell's next five matches will be at home, starting with Villanova on Tuesday, March 26.
