Swim & Dive Completes ECAC Championships' First Day

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming off a pair of third-place showings at the Patriot League Championships, the Bucknell swimming & diving teams completed a successful first day at the ECAC Championships, which are being held at Navy's Lejeune Hall.
With 63 points, the men's team is currently slotted in sixth place, just nine outside of fifth. The women's squad stands eighth, a single point outside of seventh and 13.5 outside of fifth in a tightly packed field.
The Bison excelled in the relay events, qualifying for the 'A' finals in the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays on both the men's and women's sides. The highlight of Bucknell's strong showing was Sam Sweeney, Chadd Cummings, Nate Romanowski and Vince Filippini's third-place effort in the men's 400 medley relay. In addition, the women went sixth in the 200 freestyle relay and seventh in the 400 medley relay while the men were seventh in the 200 freestyle relay.
Overall, the Bison appeared in the finals of nine different events, sending two to the finals in the women's 500 freestyle, women's 3-meter dive and men's 1-meter dive.
On the men's 1-meter board, Garrett Sommer was the runner-up while Will Cadwallader was fourth. On the women's 3-meter board, Alaina Schumann earned a bronze medal while Paige Schoelkopf took fourth on the 3-meter board.
Meagan Hathaway, who also placed 13th in the 200 IM, was 14th in the 500 freestyle, with Isabella Smith finishing right behind in 15th. Carter Weiland added a 10th-place effort in the men's 200 IM.
The Bison continue competition at the ECAC Championships tomorrow.
