WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis played its first match at the newly-named Central PA Tennis Center since 2014 and posted a convincing 6-1 win over Niagara. The Bison improved to 3-0 to start the season for the second straight year.
Bucknell won five of six singles matches and all three doubles contests. The Bison added the win over Niagara to its victories against St. Bonaventure and Siena last weekend.
"With each match we're just building more confidence and swinging through our shots better," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said. "We handled the matches even better than I expected. We're going to keep focusing on moving in and executing our shots, especially in doubles."
Cayla Koch and Sofia Ayuso each remained unbeaten at 3-0 in singles during the spring. Koch was a 6-0, 6-2 winner on court two, while Ayuso prevailed 6-3, 6-1 on court five.
All five Bucknell singles victories came in straight sets, including in the top spot, where Daniela Bellini beat Chhinda Som, 7-6, 6-1. Paige Leavy posted a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three, and Jill Auteri recorded 6-4, 7-5 scores on court six.
In doubles, Leavy and Koch edged their opponents 7-5 on court one. The teams of Bellini/Ayuso (court two) and Mishi Papich/Auteri (court three) won handily.
Bucknell is right back at the Central PA Tennis Center on Sunday for a match against Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m.
