WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis is off to its best start since 2005 as it improved to 4-0 with a 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's on Sunday at the Central PA Tennis Center.
The Bison won on their home indoor court for the second time in as many days, adding Sunday's victory to a win over Niagara on Saturday. They have also beaten St. Bonaventure and Siena this season.
"Our depth really dominated today, and it was just a very solid match all around," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said.
Cayla Koch and Sofia Ayuso have led the charge to Bucknell's great start as each improved to 4-0 in singles during the spring.
Both players won easy on Sunday. Koch cruised past Laura Gomez, 6-2, 6-1, on court two, while Ayuso beat Katherine Devlin, 6-0, 6-2, on court five.
Paige Leavy had the toughest match of the day amongst Bucknell's winners, defeating Isis Gill-Reid, 1-6, 7-6, 10-4, on court three.
Adding singles victories for the Bison were Mishi Papich, 6-2, 6-0, on court four, and Jill Auteri, 6-1, 6-1, on court six.
Bucknell took two of the three doubles contests. Daniela Bellini and Ayuso prevailed 6-2 on court two, while Papich and Auteri came out on top 6-2 on court three.
The Bison improved to 9-1 in the all-time series with Saint Joseph's. They defeated the Hawks 5-2 last season.
Next up for unbeaten Bucknell is a match against La Salle at the Hershey Racquet Club on Friday at 6 p.m.
