LEWISBURG, Pa. – Ellie Mack recorded her third career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Autumn Ceppi registered seven points, nine rebounds and six assists off the bench to lead the Bucknell women's basketball team to a 90-48 victory over Navy on Wednesday evening at Sojka Pavilion. The win helped the Bison improve to 23-5 on the year and 14-2 in Patriot League play, while the Mids fell to 10-16 overall and 5-11 in league play.
Bucknell used a 25-0 run in the first half to open up a 43-16 edge midway through the second quarter The Bison limited the Mids to seven points in both the second and third quarters and led by as many as 47 points in the fourth quarter.
"Obviously a great result for us today," Bucknell head coach Aaron Roussell said. "I thought we moved the ball really well on offense and aside from the first 8-10 minutes we kept up our energy and overall had a solid defensive effort."
Kyi English and Kate Walker added 11 points apiece for Bucknell, which shot 31-of-57 (54.4 percent) from the field, including 13-for-25 (52.0 percent) from 3-point range. Abby Kapp connected on a team-high three 3-pointers for her nine points, while Ally Johnson and Mack made two apiece. Nine Bison players hit a 3-pointer.
Every player on the Bucknell roster scored to help the team reach the 90-point plateau for the third time this season. The Bison also had 90-plus points in wins over Brown and Colgate, giving the team three games with at least 90 points for the first time since the 2000-01 season.
The Bison held a 40-31 edge on the boards and forced 17 Navy turnovers. They finished with 16 points off of those miscues.
Mack's double-double came in 23 minutes of playing time as she exited early with a big lead. That has been a theme for the team this season as no Bison player ranks in the top 25 in the league in minutes played. Individual numbers have been sacrificed for a balanced and potent offensive attack, as well as rest when the game is in hand.
Taylor O'Brien scored seven points off the bench, while Johnson and Maegan Mikkelsen contributed six points apiece. Bucknell, which has had an average of 9.5 players score per game, received 39 points from its bench, compared to just two by Navy.
"We've talked about the depth on our roster all season. We've had games where we put lineups out there that I wouldn't have thought would be the ones to play together and we don't miss a beat," Roussell said. "I think that speaks to the chemistry this group has. A lot of that comes from how hard this group works and the effort they put into practice."
The Mids were led by Jennifer Coleman's 23 points. Navy shot just 18 of 63 (28.6 percent) from the field.
Bucknell's win sets up a huge game at American on Saturday. The Bison sit one game behind the Eagles for first place in the Patriot League standings with two games to play, but would hold the tiebreaker between the teams if they can get the win in that head-to-head matchup.
American and Bucknell opened Patriot League play against each other all the way back on Jan. 3, when the Bison won 71-56 at Sojka Pavilion. The Eagles have won 15 straight games since that loss, including a 71-44 victory over Holy Cross on Wednesday.
