Baseball Set for Home Debut This Weekend Against Niagara

LEWISBURG, Pa.—The Bucknell University baseball team will play three games at home against Niagara for the first action at Depew Field of the 2019 season on March 1-3.
Bucknell will be seeking its first win of the season against the Purple Eagles, while Niagara comes into the three-game set with a record of 1-6 overall.

About the Bison/Bison Notes
- The Bison return north for the first time in 2019 after three games in Raleigh, N.C. against NC State and three games in South Carolina versus Radford and Pittsburgh.
- The Bison will play against an opponent from the MAAC for the first time since the 2017 season when it played Marist in a three-game series to open the season. Bucknell took one of the three games.
- In the 7-3 Bison win in game two, Tyler Wincig recorded two RBI while PJ Strahm also contributed to a two-hit relief effort alongside Mike Stephens to seal the win.
- On a weekend that was riddled with rain delays and schedule changes, Dominic Toso provided one of the best bats for the Bison after accumulating five hits and an RBI.
- Toso is now hitting .391 for the year and has posted nine hits to date, he has also garnered a hit in five consecutive games. Caleb Broughton has mustered a hit in four consecutive games.
- Wincig has recorded two triples already this season. The most in a single season by a Bucknell player is 10 by Roger Ahrens during the 1990 season.
- JohnPaull Bell is hitting .350 to date this season and has notched two multiple hits games so far this season. Bell is second on the team in total hits with seven, and also leads the team in RBI with six.
- Freshman Chris Cannizzaro leads the team in doubles with three so far in his freshman campaign.
- The Bison also started 0-6 last year, but managed to win their next two games after that to bounce back.
- Bucknell has gone 1-3 in its last three four-game series to open the season at home, the last time Bucknell won its opening series was when it took three of four from Cornell in the 2015 season.
- The Purple Eagles are 1-6 this season, and have lost three straight.
- The lone win for Niagara came on Feb. 23 against New Mexico in Albuquerque, a 5-3 victory.
- Bucknell has a 10-3 all-time record against the Purple Eagles, with Bucknell last facing Niagara in 2014 in Petersburg, Va. Bucknell took three out of four in the series en route to a 31-21-1 overall record and a Patriot League Tournament Championship.
