Matt Fay Named Bison Athlete of the Week After Record-Breaking Performance

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Matt Fay from the men's track and field team has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 17 after a record-breaking performance to win the pole vault at the Patriot League Indoor Championships.

Fay's event was one of the first to go final on Saturday, and provided an electric start to the Championships.

The New Rochelle, N.Y. native cleared 17-4.5 to break the Bucknell, the Wesley A. Brown Field House facility, and Patriot League Championship record in winning gold.

Fay also became the first Bucknell winner in the pole vault since David Mante went back-to-back in 2008 and 2009. He smashed his previous personal-best of 16-6.75 in the win, and his vault ranks in a tie for 33^rd in the nation.

Fay captured his first ever gold medal at the meet after placing second in 2017 and placing third in 2018.

Fay and the rest of the qualifying Bucknell squad will head to the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston beginning on March 1.
