Day 1 Results
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Bucknell University men's track and field team sits in third place after several impressive individual performances, including a record-breaking effort from senior pole vaulter Matt Fay, on day one of the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Â
Fay earned a Patriot League title after clearing 17-4.5, a school, facility, and meet record. The senior from New Rochelle, N.Y. smashed his previous personal-best of 16-6.75 that he set earlier in the year. The school-record of 17-3 set by Dave Pomfret had stood since the year 2000. Fay won the gold medal after a third-place finish a year ago.Â
Â
Also in the pole vault, Nicholas Marino posted a strong day by finishing tied for fifth after clearing 15-9 to secure 3.5 points for the Bison.Â
Jeff Brown moved on in the 60-meter dash, running just shy of his school-record time of 6.81 with a 6.82 in the prelims. He also narrowly missed out on qualifying in the 200, running a 22.10.Â
Billy Melchionni qualified for Sunday's finals in the 200, running a 21.57 to break his own personal best of 21.8 and moving solely into third place on Bucknell's all-time list. Melchionni was tied with recent Hall of Fame Inductee Noel Powell for third. His time is .02 shy of Christian Lupica's 21.55 for second on the all-time list.Â
Micah Sims scored in the long jump, placing fourth with an IC4A-qualifying leap of 23-4.5. The mark is just shy of the tenth-best mark in Bucknell history at 23-4.75. Steven Bolger also scored in the event, picking up an eighth-place finish with a leap of 22-1.5 coming out of the first flight.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Brett Zatlin, Robert Dessoye, Sean Conway, and Scott Gulizio finished in fourth with an IC4A-qualifying time of 7:36.25 in a tough field . Â
Senior Landin Delaney picked up a point in the men's 5,000 by finishing eighth overall. Â
C.J. Falcioni earned a top-ten finish in the weight throw with a heave of 55-7.5. Ninh Lam followed in eleventh with a throw of 54-10.   Ethan Dunne earned a seventh place finish in the heptathlon through the first day of action.Â
