KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior Matt Thorsheim has been named a United Soccer Coaches All-Region Selection, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon. Thorsheim was selected to the Third Team for the second time in his career, after earning the distinction in his freshman season in 2017.
Thorsheim led the Bison in points this season, posting seven goals and five assists, both career-highs for the Manalapan, N.J. native.
Thorsheim now has 14 goals and ten assists in his career, helping the Bison to a 6-7-7 record this season and their first appearance in the Patriot League semifinals since 2016. One of Thorsheim's finest moments of the season helped the Bison get to that stage, after scoring two goals on set pieces to give Bucknell a huge 2-0 road win over No. 3 seed Navy, a team that had lost just two games at home all season.
The award wraps up an eventful fall season for Thorsheim, who was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a First Team All-Patriot League Pick, and to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. Thorsheim, who is now a three-time All-League selection, was one of 18 Patriot League representatives to the three All-Region Teams. He's also the first two-time All-Region pick for Bucknell since older brother Chris Thorsheim earned the honor three times from 2013-15. The Bison have now had at least one All-Region pick in 16 of the past 17 seasons.
