LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell volleyball held leads in two of the three sets played against Army in Saturday evening's Patriot League match, but the Black Knights came out on top with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) victory. With the loss, Bucknell's record falls to 14-12 on the season, while Army moves to 18-9.
Army posted hitting percentages above .300 in all three sets, and at one point erased a 6-2 Bison lead in the win. The Bison maintained percentages above .200 in each of the first two sets, but Army was able to string together several runs that outpace the Bison.
Bucknell fell behind 11-4 in the first, but strung together a 4-0 run that involved kills by Anna Carroll and Mimi Richards to pull within three of tying it. Bucknell scored back-to-back points down the stretch to put the score at 23-19 in favor of Army before kills by Allie Strong and Emmy Barnhorst gave the Black Knights a 1-0 lead in sets.
In the second, it was the Bison who flew out of the gates with a 4-0 run to take a 6-2 lead early. However, Army responded with a 6-1 run to pull ahead. The Bison would tie the set at 9 apiece before Army scored six of the next eight points to extend the lead. The Black Knights ended the second set on a 5-1 run.
Again, Bucknell took an early lead in the third by scoring three of the first four points. The Bison would pull off two more 3-0 runs to keep the score close, but Army capitalized on a .088 Bucknell hitting percentage and committed only three errors on the way to a win in the final set.
Carroll led the Bison with eight kills on the evening. Sophie Bullard and Brooke Stark each reached double-digit digs, and freshman Kelsey O'Loughlin led the team with a .429 hitting percentage and 24 assists.
The Bison return to Davis Gym for a match against Navy on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
