Thorsheim, Bredin Earn All-Patriot League Honors
11/8/2019 11:03:00 AM | Men's Soccer
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Matt Thorsheim and Quinn Bredin have each earned All-Patriot League honors, the league office announced on Friday morning. Thorsheim, a junior forward, was named to the first team, while Bredin, a senior defender, was named to the Second Team.
Bucknell has now earned multiple selections to the All-League Team in 19 of Head Coach Brendan Nash's 21 seasons in charge.
Thorsheim earned First-Team honors for the first time in tying for the team lead in goals. The Manalapan, N.J. native earned Third-Team honors his freshman season, and was named to the Second Team in 2018. Thorsheim has tied his career-best in goals with five, and has contributed five assists, also a career-best. The 15 points by Thorsheim ranked sixth in the Patriot League this season, and he now has 12 goals and 10 assists for his career. He now becomes Bucknell's first three-time All-League member since his older brother Chris Thorsheim earned four straight All-League laurels from 2012-2015, with three of those First Team picks. Thorsheim scored the tying goal at Colgate in a game that proved big for Bucknell in the standings, while also assisting against American and Boston U in conference play this season.
Bredin earns All-League recognition for the first time after a stellar season at center back. The native of St. George, Ontario has played all but 16 minutes this season, and has started 68 consecutive games. Bredin has helped the Bison to four shutouts this season, including three of the last four conference games to help Bucknell claim a berth in the conference tournament by a single point. Bucknell ranks third in the Patriot League in goals against average at 0.91, much in part to the consistency of Bredin. Bredin is the first Bucknell defender to earn All-League recognition since Tyler Peterson was named to the Third Team in 2017.
Regular season champion Lehigh led the way with four First-Team selections, followed by Loyola Maryland with three. Navy had two First-Team picks, while Colgate and Bucknell rounded out the team with one each. Dean Koski of Lehigh was named Coach of the Year.
