LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Rick Mottram and Grayson Cherubino were recognized on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Football Team, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
With Mottram and Cherubino's recognition, the Bison have now placed at least one student-athlete on the Academic All-District 2 Team each of the past six seasons. Since 1981, Bucknell has earned 55 Academic All-District 2 Team citations.
Mottram is now a two-time Academic All-District 2 Football Team member. A junior Mechanical Engineering major, he boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average. On the field, he has emerged as the quarterback of the Bison defense this season; the linebacker currently leads Bucknell with a career-high 79 tackles, 22 more than the next closest Bison. He also ranks second on the team in sacks (4) and third in tackles for a loss (7).
Mottram intercepted the first two passes of his collegiate career in 2019. He captured his first career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week nod after making a career-best 16 tackles (12 solo) at Lafayette on Oct. 26; he also posted two sacks, matching his career high, and returned his second career interception 11 yards into Leopard territory.
A 2018 Academic All-Patriot League honoree, Mottram has posted 124 tackles (77 solo), 17 tackles for a loss and six sacks in 22 career games, 12 of which were starts in the past two seasons.
In 2017, Mottram was chosen as one of five NFF Chapter Scholar-Athletes by the NFF & College Hall of Fame, representing Bucknell at the NFF Chapter Awards Banquet in New York City; the valedictorian of his high school class, he graduated with the top GPA in Allentown High School history, a weighted 4.549.
Cherubino earned his first Academic All-District 2 Football Team nod. A sophomore who is undeclared in the Freeman School of Management, he has been a fixture on Bucknell's defensive line over the past two seasons. He leads the sophomore class with 15 career starts and has appeared in all 20 of the Bison's games during his time in Lewisburg to date.
As a freshman, Cherubino paced all Bucknell defensive linemen with 35 tackles (17 solo). This season, he has totaled 24 tackles (eight solo) to bring his career total to 59 (25 solo). He has also posted nine tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble over the course of his career.
