Thorsheim Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Three Bison Named to All-Academic Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University men's soccer team earned three representatives to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league announced on Monday afternoon. Junior midfielder Matt Thorsheim, who was also named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, senior midfielder Nick King, and sophomore forward Patrick O'Hara each earned a spot on the 11-man squad.  Â
Thorsheim becomes the first Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's soccer since Zach Rockmore earned the distinction in 2016. Thorsheim also earns a spot on the Academic All-League Team for the second straight year after making the team as a sophomore in 2018. The junior from Manalapan, N.J. scored two goals in Bucknell's 2-0 quarterfinal win over Navy on Saturday, and has now managed seven goals and five assists this season. Thorsheim was named the Bison Athlete of the Week for his efforts on Saturday. Thorsheim was a First-Team All-League pick, and earned Second-Team Honors last season. Thorsheim holds a 3.71 grade-point-average, and is an Accounting and Financial Management major .Â
King also joins Thorsheim as a repeat selection to the Academic All-League Team. King has now made the squad three years in a row, becoming the first Three-Time Academic All-League selection in program history. The senior from Mattawan, Mich. Holds a 3.75 grade-point-average in biomedical engineering, and has also scored three goals and two assists this season. King has played in all 19 games this season with 18 starts in the center of the park, logging the second-most minutes on the team. Â
O'Hara earned Academic All-League Honors this season after picking up CoSIDA Academic All-District honors last week. O'Hara became the first CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for the Bison since 2015 in the process. The sophomore from South Hero, Vt. holds a 4.0 average in biology, and has scored five goals and added two assists this season. O'Hara's five goals have come on just eight shots on target,
Bucknell led the way with three Academic All-League picks, followed by Loyola Maryland with two. Navy, Lafayette, Boston University, American, and Army each had one selection. The Bison have now earned seven selections to the Academic All-League team in the past two seasons, and have had at least one pick to the All-Academic Team since 2010.   The Bucknell men's soccer program was also recognized by the United Soccer Coaches Association Academic Award after posting a team GPA of 3.0 or higher as the men's squad posted a cumulative GPA of 3.26. Â
