STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Bucknell freshman Tatum McKelvey fired a season-best 76, the low round by any player in either round of the Vanessa Picciotto Perrine Memorial Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Tuesday at Richmond Country Club. The Bison finished in second place in the six-team field, falling just four shots behind Monmouth, in a solid finish to the fall season.
McKelvey's 5-over-par total stood out during a week when low scores were hard to come by. The Sewickley, Pa., native was the only player in the field to break 80 in the final round after only two posted scores in the 70s a day earlier. Unfortunately McKelvey needed one more stroke to get into what eventually became a three-person playoff, and she settled for a personal-best T-4th finish.
Niagara's Sarah Godfrey made a par on the first playoff hole to best teammate Susan Leone and Monmouth's Paige Diecidue. That trio posted 161 over 36 holes, while McKelvey and Monmouth's Cassidy Gavaghan finished one back at 162.
Two other Bison also finished in the top 10, as Meredith Langs (85-81) placed ninth and Sally Sohn (82-85) took 10th. Sahana Paravantavida (85-87) ended up 15th, while Erin Holmes (81-92) was one spot back in 16th.
Bucknell began the final round six shots behind Monmouth for the team lead. The Bison topped the field wih a 329 on Tuesday, but they were only able to cut two strokes off the deficit as the Hawks posted a 331.
Host Wagner finished third, 17 shots behind Bucknell, followed by Fairfield, Long Island and Niagara.
