This Week in Bucknell Athletics

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- It's a big week ahead, highlighted by the first Patriot League championships of the 2019-20 season. The men's and women's cross country teams get the championship season started, with Colgate hosting the title races on Saturday. The men race starts at 11 a.m., followed by the women at noon. Can the Bison women win their fifth Patriot League championship in a row and 13th overall?

It's technically not the playoffs quite yet for field hockey and men's and women's soccer, but this week's games will certainly have a postseason feel for all three teams. Field hockey has a busy week, with Penn State coming to Graham Field on Wednesday evening, followed by Holy Cross on Saturday at noon for Senior Day. That will be the final game of the regular season, and the Bison can clinch the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a victory.

Likewise, the women's soccer team concludes its regular season against Holy Cross, albeit on the road on Friday at 5 p.m. The Patriot League table is logjammed in the middle, with only two of the 10 teams having already clinched postseason berths. The Bison can still finish anywhere from third to eighth (top six make the PL Tournament), but they know that a win in Worcester puts them into the postseason. Meanwhile, the men's soccer team has two Patriot League contests remaining, on the road at Lafayette and Lehigh. The Bison are tied for fifth in the standings, so every point is critical down the stretch.

The volleyball and men's water polo teams have home games this week as well. Men's water polo hosts La Salle and Johns Hopkins in a pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference tilts, while volleyball entertains American and Loyola. Also be sure to keep an eye on the women's golf team, which closes out its fall season at Wagner's tournament on Monday and Tuesday.

Turning to the winter sports, Bison wrestling fans can get their first look at the team on Sunday evening (5 p.m.) at the team's annual intrasquad scrimmage in Davis Gym. There is also quite a bit of basketball activity prior to the teams' season openers on March 5.
