LEWISBURG, Pa. – With strong performances on both ends of the field during a 2-1 week for Bucknell field hockey, junior defender Kaelyn long has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
Long was the biggest contributor to the Bison's win over Colgate on Saturday, notching two goals and a pair of assists in the 6-1 victory. With the six points, Long doubled her season total and jumped into the league's top-10 in the category.
The junior also contributed to two impressive defensive outings for the Bison in games against Yale and Cornell. The Bison defense held Yale scoreless through the first 44 minutes of play on Monday, earning its fifth victory on the road this season. The team then allowed just one goal to Cornell on Tuesday, which was scored on a penalty stroke.
With her two-goal performance on Saturday, Long surpassed her career high for goals in a season with four. The Hanover, Pa. native is also up to four assists on the year, which ranks third on the team. Long joined Allie Christopher as the only two Bison to tally six points in a game this season.
Long and the Bison get back to work on Friday when they take on the second-place Lafayette Leopards in Easton, Pa.
