COMPLETE RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass. – Liam Pitt had a hand in four of Bucknell's nine event wins, and it was his victory in the 100-yard butterfly that ignited a strong team finish that led to a 149-139 over Boston University on Saturday afternoon. The Bison improved to 2-0 on the season after sweeping Holy Cross and Boston University on the road this weekend.
Pitt, a sophomore from West Chester, Pa., enjoyed a huge day with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles and the 100 fly, and he also swam the fly leg on the victorious 200 medley relay.
Freshman Leo Kuyl also had a terrific meet, as he swam on both winning relays, finished second in the 50 free as part of a 1-2 sweep with Pitt, and third in the 100 free as part of a 1-2-3 Bison sweep with Pitt and fellow freshman Matt Mills.
Jack Rose was Bucknell's first individual event winner of the day in the 100 backstroke (51.79). The Terriers then went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke and 1-2 in the 200 fly before Pitt (20.86) and Kuyl (21.09) got the Bison back on the right track in the 50 free.
Will Cadwallader and Nick Pirone took the top two places in both diving events to take all of the points on the boards, and then Pitt touched first in 46.30 in the 100 free, with Mills (46.76) and Kuyl (46.94) right behind. After a runner-up finish from freshman Garrett Kiesel in the 200 back, the Terriers picked up big points in the 200 breast and 500 free.
The Bison clinched the dual with wins in the final three events, starting with Pitt's triumph in the 100 fly (50.13). Matt McGoey (1:54.37) and Sean Quinn (1:55.57) claimed the top two places in the 200 individual medley, and then Bucknell capped the meet with a convincing win by almost two seconds in the 400 free relay. Kuyl led off the relay, followed by Rose, Mills and McGoey.
The Bison snapped a four-meet series losing streak to the Terriers and reversed a 182-114 loss last season at Kinney Natatorium.
Bucknell hosts Binghamton next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the 2019-20 home opener.
