Women's Swim & Dive Topples Army West Point, 174-126

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bolstered by a trio of first-place finishes by both Julie Byrne and Maddie Hartigan, the Bucknell women's swimming & diving team toppled Army West Point, 174-126, on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bison (7-1, 5-1 Patriot League) matched their highest total of dual wins in the past five seasons with their victory over the Black Knights (2-4, 0-3 Patriot League). They last reached the seven-victory plateau in 2014-15, when they finished the year 7-4 (4-3 Patriot League). Their five Patriot League victories represent their highest total since 2013-14, when they went an unblemished 6-0 in league action.
Byrne and Hartigan accounted for six of Bucknell's 10 first-place finishes. Byrne, who won the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke against Loyola on Friday, touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 IM. Hartigan outraced the field in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.Â
Other Bison who scored victories included Alexis Faria (200 butterfly), Abby Merriman (1,000 freestyle) and Lindsay Smalec (100 butterfly). In addition, Hartigan and Smalec teamed with Steph Boyd and Rachel Hazard for a first-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay.
Abigail Rosenberg had another strong day, taking second in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle; the day before against Loyola, she took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Emma Hadley added runner-up efforts in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.
In total, Bucknell accumulated 27 top-three finishes to snap a three-meet losing skid to Army West Point. The Bison went 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
Bucknell next travels to New York to face Wagner on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
