BALTIMORE, MD. – A late goal from Marko Djordjevic was the difference in a closely contested tie between the Bucknell men's water polo team at Johns Hopkins on Sunday afternoon in an 18-17 win to give the Bison their tenth win of the season and improve to 4-1 in MAWPC play.
The Bison started off fast, scoring five of the game's first six goals to take a 5-1 lead in the first six minutes of the game, with three of the goals coming from Logan Schofield
However, the Blue Jays battled back to tie the game at six with 5:04 in the second quarter. The game would remain close for the rest of the way, with neither team leading by more than one goal.
Although Bucknell continued to have an answer for every Johns Hopkins goal, the Blue Jays would not go away, trailing by just one, 15-14, entering the fourth quarter. Johns Hopkins tied the game at 15 just over a minute into the last period for the fourth tie of the game.
The Blue Jays eventually took their first lead, 17-16, with just 4:49 to go.
However, the Bison found an answer once again, with Rade Joksimovic netting his third goal of the game to tie the contest at 17 with 3:41 to play. Each team had several clear-cut chances towards the end of the match, but it was Djordjevic who converted the last-gasp effort to give the Bison the win.
The Bison were paced by seven different scorers: Schofield (6), Djordjevic (3), Jared Stanley (3), Joksimovic (3), Matt Blackwell (1), Cullen Jacuzzi (1), and Jack Lewis (1).
The win was the Bison's fifth straight against Johns Hopkins.
