LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Junior goalkeeper Theresa Adu-Attobrah and freshman center back Claire Mensi, two of the catalysts in Bucknell's superb defensive performances over the weekend, earned weekly awards from the Patriot League on Monday. Adu-Attobrah was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, while Mensi earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after the Bison pitched 200 scoreless minutes in a home win over Towson on Friday and a road draw with Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday. It was the first career honors for both players.
Adu-Attobrah made three saves against Towson and five against Saint Francis without conceding a goal. The Lumberton, New Jersey native now leads the Patriot League in save percentage (.907) and saves per game (6.5), and her 0.64 goals-against average ranks third in the league. The two clean sheets over the weekend marked the first two solo shutouts of her career.Â
Mensi played all 200 minutes at center back in the two contests over the weekend. She is the youngest member of a Bison back four that also includes captains Madi Dano and Ali Russo, along with senior Riley Coopersmith. That defensive unit has allowed only four goals through six matches this season, which is tied for second-fewest at the start of a campaign in team history. The team record for fewest goals allowed in the first six games of a season is three by the 2016 squad. The Bison also yielded four in six games in 2002.Â
Mensi, a native of Katonah, New York, has started all six games this season. She collected her first collegiate goal in a 4-1 win over Niagara on Aug. 19.Â
Bucknell is now 2-3-1 on the season, with four of the six games coming against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season. Another tough test comes on Thursday, when the Bison host William & Mary at 7 p.m.
