MERION STATION, Pa. – Senior Mishi Papich and junior Jill Auteri won a pair of matches Friday to advance to the semifinal round in Flight 2 doubles on the first day of the SJU Invitational.

Papich and Auteri, who played together for the first time since the 2016-17 season, opened play with an 8-2 win over Iswarya Vel and Madeline Hill (Saint Joseph's) in the opening round. They followed that with an 8-4 victory over La Salle's Jazmin Walle and Maansi Malhotra in the quarterfinals.

Villanova's Carina Burdick and Olivia Kapp await Papich and Auteri in the semifinal round. The Villanova team advanced to the semifinals at the Bison Invite last weekend in a draw that was eventually won by Bucknell's Cayla Koch and Paige Leavy.

In Flight 1 doubles Friday, Bucknell's Sofia Ayuso and Daniela Bellini bounced back from a loss in their first match to post an 8-4 win over Laura Gomez and Lourdes Sprinckmoller (Saint Joseph's) in the quarterfinal round of the consolation draw.

"The competition is much stronger than last week, but we are playing well," Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt said.

Doubles play will resume and singles play will begin on Saturday.
