Maddie Dano Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior co-captain Maddie Dano earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday after helping the Bison women's soccer team to a key road win over conference rival American.
The Bison conceded an early goal just 1:50 into the match, then held off the Eagles for the final 88 minutes, despite some major pressure applied by the home side. Bucknell quickly erased that deficit when Jenna Marek scored in the 20th minute, and then six minutes later Dano provided the go-ahead goal with a spectacular "Olimpico" directly off a corner kick. It was her first goal of the season and fourth of her career.Â
This was Dano's second career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor. The other came in 2016 after a 2-1 win at Syracuse, when she also scored an Olimpico against the Orange.Â
The victory was a big one for the Bison, who leveled their Patriot League record at 1-1 after an opening loss to Lafayette. Bucknell plays at home twice this week, hosting Loyola at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m.
