Volleyball Wraps Up Weekend with Loss to American

The Bison Opened League Play with Two Teams Picked to Finish in the Top Three of the PL
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball wrapped up its tough opening weekend of Patriot League play Saturday with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) loss to preseason favorite American at Davis Gym.
The Bison, who opened league play against two teams picked to finish in the top three of the standings this season, dropped to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Eagles improved to 7-9 overall and 2-0 in the league, with four of their losses coming to teams from Power Five conferences.
Junior Mimi Richards led Bucknell with 12 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. She added one solo block and now has 274 total blocks for her career. She is on pace to crack the top five in program history before the start of her senior season.
Sophomore Charner Ramsey picked up the start at setter for the Bison and came through with a career-high 26 assists. Sophomore Anna Carroll also moved into the starting lineup and contributed a career-high 12 digs. Sophie Bullard just missed a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs.
American hit .356 as a team, led by Aleksandra Kazala with 14 kills on .400 hitting and Helena Elbaek with 10 kills on .429 hitting. Kennedy Etheridge led all players with 37 assists, while Loren McKenzie had a match-high five block assists.
The Bison go on the road for their next two matches. They will play at Holy Cross on Friday and at Colgate on Saturday.
