Women's Tennis Hosts Bison Invite Beginning Friday

The Bison Will Have Nine Players Compete at the Tournament

Setting the Scene
What: Bison Invite
When: Friday, Sept. 21 – Sunday, Sept. 23
Where: Bucknell Varsity Courts (Lewisburg, Pa.)
Teams: Binghamton, Bucknell, IUP, Marist, Niagara, Villanova
About the Bison
• Bucknell will compete at home for the second time during the fall season when it hosts five other teams for the Bison Invite this weekend.
• The Bison hosted the Bucknell Fall Invite two weeks ago and won two titles. Freshman Daniela Bellini went 3-0 on her way to winning the Flight 1 singles bracket, while junior Paige Leavy and sophomore Cayla Koch teamed up to win the Flight 1 doubles title.
• Overall, Bucknell went 12-10 in singles and 7-3 in doubles in its first competition. Four singles players and two doubles teams posted winning records on the opening weekend.
• This weekend marks the second of four invitationals for the Bison this fall. They will also compete at the Saint Joseph's Invitational and Morgan State Invitational.
Scouting the Opponents
• Binghamton opened the fall season at the Navy Invite, but did not win any titles. Maria Pandya had the team's best record last season, going 11-14 while playing on courts five and six.
• IUP competed at the Division II ITA Atlantic Region Championships last weekend and had the doubles team of Mariana Valenzuela and Maria Magraner win the Flight B title. The Crimson Hawks have qualified for nine straight NCAA Division II Championships.
• Marist will compete for the first time this fall. Sophomores Julia Gabay and Sam Galu were voted First Team All-MAAC in doubles last season. Gabay was Second Team All-MAAC in singles.
• Niagara will compete for the first time this fall. Andreea Peteu and Shannon Wong were Second Team All-MAAC selections last season.
• Villanova will compete for the first time this fall. Sophomore Claudia Althans was a Second Team All-Big East selection last season.
