Bucknell's Cooper Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell's Jared Cooper was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Cooper was recognized with his first weekly award after leading the Bison with 96 rushing yards on 15 carries and 28 receiving yards on two catches against Sacred Heart.
A running back who made his first collegiate start on Sept. 8, Cooper broke free for a 37-yard run that brought Bucknell to the red zone during the fourth quarter. He also caught a 19-yard pass in that frame.
During the second half, Cooper registered 75 of his rushing yards and all of his receiving yards. The freshman now has 118 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards on the season.
In 2017, linebacker Simeon Page (Sept. 4, Nov. 20) and safety Brandon Benson (Nov. 6) captured Patriot League Rookie of the Week accolades. Running back Chad Freshnock, who received this distinction three times during the 2016 campaign, was Bucknell's last offensive player to be tabbed as the Rookie of the Week.
Cooper and the Bison begin a three-game road stretch by squaring off against Penn on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the Bison and Quakers since 2010, head coach Joe Susan's first season at the helm.
