PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rade Joksimovic netted nine goals to lift the Bucknell men's water polo team to a 13-9 victory over MIT Saturday morning in the 2018 opener for both teams.Â
The Bison pulled away from the Engineers behind a 5-1 fourth quarter, which broke an 8-8 tie. Joksimovic and Cooper Dolan, who finished with a hat trick, each scored two goals during that frame while freshman Jack Lewis registered his first collegiate strike with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.Â
Freshman Jack Otto was solid in his collegiate debut, making eight saves between the pipes. He also recorded his first assist on Joksimovic's final tally of the contest.
Jared Stanley had a strong game, leading Bucknell with three assists and adding two steals. Dolan recorded a team-best three steals while Logan Schofield drew a career-high 10 ejections. The last Bison to reach the double digits in ejections drawn in a single game was Jack Else at Navy on Sept. 22, 2012.
Joksimovic's goal total is tied for 10th in school history. He owns the school record of 14, set on Nov. 18, 2016 against Connecticut College, as well as one 12-goal outing and one 10-goal performance. This is his third nine-goal effort; he previously scored nine at Navy on Sept. 24, 2016 and against Mercyhurst in the MAWPC quarterfinals on Nov. 17, 2017.
The Bison continue play at the Bruno Classic this afternoon, taking on Austin College at 2:15 p.m. and host Brown at 6 p.m.
