Bison Picked to Finish Third in the Conference
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Lexi Quick and Brittany Willwerth were voted to the Field Hockey Preseason All-Patriot League Team and the Bison were picked to finish third in the conference in the league's preseason poll released on Monday.
Quick and Willwerth were both selected to the All-Patriot League Team following last season while helping Bucknell finish third in the conference standings. The Bison went on to beat second-place American in the semifinal round of the conference tournament before falling to top-seeded Boston University in the championship game.
Boston University was picked to repeat as conference champions, receiving eight first-place votes and 68 total points. American was a close second with six first-place votes and 66 points, while Bucknell came in at third with 52 points. Rounding out the poll were Lafayette (41), Holy Cross (32), Lehigh (23), and Colgate (12).
Quick, a senior defender, earned First Team All-Patriot League recognition at the end of last season and went on to land a spot on the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. For her career, she has 18 points on five goals and eight assists. Last season, she led a defensive effort that helped the Bison hold their opponent to one goal or less nine times.
Willwerth, a junior forward, was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection a year ago despite missing the team's final six regular season games and both postseason contests with an injury. Even missing those eight games, she led the team in points (20) and goals (7), and was second on the team with six assists. Through two seasons, Willwerth has totaled 32 points on 12 goals and eight assists.
Bucknell opens the season with two road games in Virginia, playing at Longwood on Aug. 24, and at James Madison on Aug. 26. The team will host Cornell for its home opener on Aug. 31.
