LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Daniel Wright has been named the Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a big win over Colgate's Jacob Daugherty on court one singles Sunday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Wright, a two-time All-Patriot League player, beat Daugherty, a three-time All-Patriot League Player, for the first time in three tries and did so in convincing fashion. The Bison senior pulled out a close 7-5 victory in the first set before rolling to a 6-0 shutout in the second set.
Wright improved to 1-0 in Patriot League matches this season and is 9-5 in league matches during his career. All 14 of those matches have come on either court one or court two.
Playing alongside fellow senior Ben Gerber, Wright also had a win on court one doubles, beating Daugherty and Scott Bickel, 6-3.
The Bison will play St. Francis Brooklyn at the USTA National Tennis Center on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
