LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's lacrosse team returned to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches' Poll at No. 16 and entered the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Listing for the first time this season at No. 18.
The Bison, who upset then No. 6/6 Loyola on March 24 to earn their first victory over a top-10 opponent since 2013, are 6-3 (4-1 Patriot League) on the season. They are also tied for first in the Patriot League standings with Navy and No. 19/17 Lehigh.
The Bison were previously ranked No. 20 in the USILA Coaches' Poll during the week of Feb. 26. They last appeared in both major polls during the week of Feb. 22, 2016, when they were tabbed 20th in the USILA Coaches' Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Cascade/Maverik Media Poll.
In 2018, Bucknell is 2-1 against ranked teams, with victories over then No. 18/20 Colgate and then No. 6/6 Loyola and a loss at then No. 15/16 Penn on a last-second goal.
The Bison have been led by Will Sands, who was previously named to the Tewaaraton Watch List. Sands is on pace to have one of the finest seasons in the program's 50-year history; with 51 points (17g-34a) in the first nine games, he stands third in the country and needs just seven points to crack Bucknell's top 10 in single-season points for the third time in his collegiate career.
The Bison next battle No. 15/20 Army on Saturday, March 31 at noon in West Point, N.Y.
