Women's Lacrosse Dropped by No. 12/13 Navy

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team was downed by No. 12/13 Navy, 18-5, on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field.
The Mids (7-2, 2-0 Patriot League) pulled away from the Bison (2-6, 1-1 Patriot League) with a 12-0 run that stretched from the 15:56 mark of the first half to the 17:32 mark of the second. Over that stretch, Julia Collins netted four of her game-high five goals in succession to turn a 4-2 Navy edge into a more comfortable 8-2 advantage.
Collins finished the game with 10 points on equal totals of goals and assist. Her twin, Jenna, was second with five points (4g-1a) while three other Mids enjoyed multi-point outings. Navy outshot Bucknell, 36-13, bolstered by a 22-5 opening half. The Mids also held a 16-8 advantage in draw controls and turned the ball over eight fewer times over the course of the contest.
Bucknell came out strong, holding Navy off the board until the 21:07 mark of the first half. During that stretch, Jamie DeWitt came up with four of her 11 saves, including two on free-position bids.
After the Mids netted three goals in a three-minute span to take the lead, Sarah Galzerano and Eve Calabria capitalized on free-position attempts with 18:09 and 16:22 on the clock to pull the Bison within a single strike. From that point on, Navy took over the game, mounting its 12-0 run, which included a four-goal flurry in a three-minute span.
Four of Bucknell's five goals came on free-position attempts. Mary Margaret Kenney and Sarah Dohler also converted on free-position opportunities; Dohler added an unassisted goal with two minutes remaining in regulation.
Three Bison caused two turnovers while DeWitt collected a team-best three ground balls. Morgan Steinhacker paced Bucknell with five draw controls.
Julia Collins added 10 draw controls to her gaudy point total. Navy used three goalkeepers over the course of the contest, and they combined to make four saves.
After traveling to Lafayette for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 28, the Bison return to Graham Field to take on Colgate on Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m.
