LEWISBURG, Pa.—Four Bucknell men's soccer players were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday. Senior defender Tyler Peterson, senior goal keeper Ryan Ott, junior midfielder Nick King, and sophomore midfielder Matt Thorsheim each picked up honors. King reclaims his spot on the team from last season while Ott, Thorsheim, and Peterson each earn the honor for the first time.
The four honorees for the Bison were the most in the conference, with three other institutions receiving two honorees on the list.
Peterson has been a key cog in the Bison back line over his career. The Glastonbury, Conn. native helped the Bison keep five clean sheets this season as well as captaining the squad the past two years. He led Bucknell in scoring as a defender and scored the game-winning goal from the spot to give Loyola it's only loss in league play for the 2018 season. He was also a Third-Team All-Patriot League selection in 2017.
Peterson is a biology major with a 3.49 GPA. He has been a member of the Patriot League Men' Soccer Academic Honor Roll the past two seasons, as well as being named to the Dean's list twice. He is also a member of the Bucknell Athletic Leadership Committee.
Ott also was an integral part of five shutouts for the Bison defense this season. He consistently ranked near the top of the league in save percentage and goals allowed average after helping the Bison to a 3-0-1 start in conference play. Ott made 55 total saves overall this season.
Ott is a double major in economics and psychology with a 3.65 GPA. He has been on the Dean's list for the past three years, and has been a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He also spends time as a tutor and serves as an economics teaching assistant.
King earned his spot on the 2018 team after providing three assists while playing in a deeper midfield role this year. He played and started in all 17 games this season, and has started 57 games in his career for the Orange and Blue. He has also been a part of the All-Patriot League Third Team in 2016 and 2017.
King is a biomedical engineering major with a 3.73 GPA. He has been a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll the past two seasons, and spent this past summer as an intern with Stryker Corporation. He is also a member of the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute.
Thorsheim claims the academic honors shortly after being selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team. Thorsheim had two goals and one assist this season while playing and starting 16 games for Bucknell. He was a Third-Team All-Patriot League selection in 2016 as a freshman and also earned College Soccer News Freshman All-American Honors.
Thorsheim is a management major with a 3.84 GPA. He is one of only two sophomores on the academic squad.
