LEWISBURG, Pa. – Matt McGoey and Maggie Wyngowski will represent Bucknell at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships. The prestigious event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
To participate in the USA Winter Nationals, swimmers had to meet stringent time standards. This year, the event will be a long-course competition. Many of the United States' top swimmers, including Olympic gold medalists Nathan Adrian, Katie Ledecky, Simone Manuel and Dana Vollmer, are set to vie for titles in 14 different events over the course of the four-day period.
Bucknell's record holder in the 200 IM (1:47.84), McGoey also boasts program top-10 times in the 200 butterfly (4th, 1:49.38), 400 IM (4th, 3:52.96), 100 backstroke (8th, 50.44), 200 backstroke (8th, 1:49.75) and 100 butterfly (10th, 49.91). A 2018 All-Patriot League Second Team honoree, he placed fourth in both the 200 IM and 400 IM at last year's Patriot League Championships.
Wyngowski owns school records in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.98) and 400 IM (4:17.80); as a freshman, she also clocked top-10 times in the 200 IM (3rd, 2:02.26), 100 breaststroke (10th, 1:05.18). The 2018 Patriot League Rookie of the Meet and an All-Patriot League First Team honoree, she captured a silver medal in the 400 IM while taking fourth in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM at the Patriot League Championships.
This will be Wyngowsk's second-straight appearance at the USA Winter Nationals. Last year, she swam the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breaststroke; in the 400 IM, she touched the wall in 4:19.84, .03 of a second faster than the school record at the time.
