Five Bucknell Football Players Named to All-Patriot League Teams

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Five Bucknell football players were honored on the 2018 All-Patriot League teams, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Punter Alex Pechin was recognized on the All-Patriot League First Team for the third time in his storied career. He was joined on the First Team by defensive lineman/linebacker Simeon Page, a 2017 Second Team selection as a freshman. In addition, wide receiver Alan Butler, center Pat Finn and cornerback Bryan Marine represented the Bison on the All-Patriot League Second Team.
Page started Bucknell's first seven games at a hybrid defensive lineman/linebacker position before losing the season to injury. At the time, he was the team leader in tackles for a loss (9.0) and sacks (4.5) and stood fifth among Bison with 38 tackles (20 solo). Despite missing the final four games, he led the team in sacks, finished second in forced fumbles (2) and placed third in tackles for a loss. He will enter his junior campaign with 13.5 career sacks, just three away from cracking Bucknell's top 10.
One of the finest punters in Bison history, Pechin stood first in the FCS in punts (81) and punting yards (3,606) and fourth in punting average (44.5) at the end of the regular season; the only punter in the FCS's top five with at least 65 punts, he broke the school record in punts while posting the second-best punting average in the Bucknell annals. Of his 81 punts, a career-best 29 sailed for at least 50 yards while 28 landed inside the 20.
Pechin owns the school record in career punting average (43.7) and the program's top-three single-season averages of 45.1 (2017), 44.5 (2018) and 42.1 (2015); he also booted the third- (71) and fifth- (70) longest punts in school history over the course of the 2018 campaign. Previously a 2017 and 2015 All-Patriot League First Team honoree, he was named to 2018 Preseason All-America First Teams by STATS, Phil Steele, Hero Sports, College Sports Madness and FreeAgentFootball.com after capturing STATS Third Team All-America accolades in 2017.
Butler, a first-time All-Patriot League selection, was the lone Bison to start all 22 games over the past two seasons. In 2018, the senior set career-best totals in receiving yards (297) and touchdowns (3); he will graduate with 966 yards and five touchdowns on 85 catches, starting 31 of his 39 career games.
Finn, also a first-time All-Patriot League honoree, started 10 games at center, missing one due to injury. A leader in the trenches and a force to be reckoned with up the middle, he started 20 of Bucknell's 22 games over the past two campaigns.
Marine registered 85 tackles (69 solo), three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2018. He finished his career with 242 tackles (192 solo), 8.5 tackles for a loss, 42 passes defended, 10 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 40 career games, 35 of which were starts; he is one of only 12 Bison who reached the double digits in career interceptions and will graduate tied for eighth in the Bucknell annals. This year, he also served as the Bison's primary return man, posting the third-most punt return yards (296) and seventh-most kickoff return yards (603) in school history.
In addition, Marine was among the FCS leaders in combined kick returns, solo tackles and punt returns as a senior. At the end of the regular season, he stood fourth in combined kick returns (899), fifth in solo tackles and solo tackles per game (6.3) and 17th in punt returns (11.0). He was previously honored on the 2016 All-Patriot League First Team.
