LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Rick Mottram was honored on the Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 Football Team, CoSIDA announced Thursday afternoon.
With Mottram's recognition, the Bison have now placed at least one student-athlete on the Academic All-District 2 Team each of the past five seasons. Since 1981, Bucknell has earned 53 Academic All-District 2 Team citations.
A sophomore Mechanical Engineering major, Mottram boasts a 4.0 grade point average. He was one of five Academic All-District 2 Football Team members with a perfect GPA, joining Kentucky's Miles Butler and Blake Best, Robert Morris's Adam Wollet and Penn State's Blake Gillikin.
A valuable member of the Bison special teams, Mottram has taken on an expanded role at linebacker over the past five games, starting against Lafayette and at Georgetown. Of his 31 tackles, all but two have come over that stretch. He also forced and recovered his first career fumble against the Hoyas and stands fourth among Bison with 6.5 tackles for a loss.
Last year, Mottram was chosen as one of five NFF Chapter Scholar-Athletes by the NFF & College Hall of Fame, representing Bucknell at the NFF Chapter Awards Banquet in New York City; the valedictorian of his high school class, he graduated with the top GPA in Allentown High School history, a weighted 4.549.
Mottram was also one of five Patriot League football players recognized on this year's Academic All-District 2 Team, joining Lafayette's Andrew Chuma and Trent Crossan, Lehigh's Harrison Kauffman and Georgetown's Ahmad Wilson. He is Bucknell's second-straight linebacker to be honored, following Mark Pyles.
