ESPN MID-MAJOR POLL
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's basketball has been receiving a lot of attention nationally among mid-majors as of late as it rises up the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll and that continued on Wednesday. ESPN released its first mid-major poll of the season and the Bison were ranked fifth by writer Graham Hays.
The Bison are 2-0 on the season with a 70-32 win over Monmouth and a 75-58 win over Quinnipiac. They have a tough task ahead as they travel to play Drexel on Thursday. The Dragons played in the WNIT in each of the past three seasons.
Drake, which tops the CollegeInsider.com poll, is also ranked in the ESPN mid-major poll thanks in large part to an early-season win over Nebraska. The Bulldogs are followed by South Dakota State, Belmont, and South Dakota. Rounding out the top 10 behind Bucknell are Central Michigan, Dayton, IUPUI, Green Bay, and Boise State.
Bucknell has used a balanced offensive attack through the first two wins, with six players averaging at least 7.0 points. Senior Kaitlyn Slagus leads the way with a double-double average of 13.0 points and 12.0 rebounds. The others are senior Kate Walker (12.5 ppg), junior Ellie Mack (10.0), senior Kyi English (9.0), sophomore Abby Kapp (8.5), and freshman Marly Walls (7.0).
