Volleyball Opens Second Half of League Schedule with Loss at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Bucknell dropped a tough first set to swing the momentum Navy's way as the Mids went on to win 3-0 (31-29, 25-14, 25-14) in a Patriot League volleyball match Saturday at Wesley A. Brown Field House.
Navy improved to 17-6 overall and 9-1 in the Patriot League as it remained in second place in the conference standings. The Bison, who follow this match with a match against the first-place team on Sunday, fell to 6-14 overall and 1-8 in the league.
Bucknell nearly pulled off a great comeback in the first set. The Bison trailed 24-20 before scoring four straight points, including a block by Alexa Bonanno and Mimi Richards to tie the set. From there Navy had four chances to win the set and Bucknell had one before the Mids took it on their fifth chance at set point.
The Bison were balanced defensively again with seven total blocks and four players reaching double-digits in digs. Richards led the way at the net with six total blocks. Sophie Bullard had a team-high 11 digs, while Bonanno, Brooke Stark, and Blake Buchholz finished with 10 apiece.
Bullard also led the team in kills with eight and aces with three.
Kelsey Kingsland paced Navy with 12 kills. The Mids had 12 blocks, including two solo blocks and three block assists from Katie Patrick.
The Bison will make the short trip from Annapolis to Washington, D.C., to take on first-place American on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Eagles are a perfect 9-0 in the conference following a 3-0 win over Lafayette on Saturday.
