No. 14 Men's Water Polo Drops Two Games to Ranked Opponents

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --  The Bucknell men's water polo team dropped its first two games of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament on Saturday, falling 16-7 to #15 Cal Baptist, before being edged in a close 10-9 decision to 19th ranked San Jose State. The two contests mark the seventh and eighth straight ranked opponents the Bison have faced.Â
Game One: No. 15 Cal Baptist 16, No. 14 Bucknell 7
A quick start by the Lancers proved too much for the 14th ranked Bison in a 16-7 loss to open the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.Â
Cal Baptist scored five goals in the first and second quarter, including a 5-1 second period, to pull away from the Bison in the early goings.Â
An early goal for the Lancers was negated by Rade Joksimovic, who scored his only goal of the day at the 5:08 mark of the first period. However, the Lancers would go on to score nine of the next 12 goals afterwards to take a 10-4 lead at halftime.Â
Bucknell managed to outscore the Lancers in the third period, 3-2, but Cal Baptist sealed the victory by shutting out the Bison in the fourth quarter. Â Â
Marko Djordjevic picked up two goals and two assists for the Bison, while Jared Stanley added two goals.Â

Another early outburst by Bucknell's opponent proved too much to overcome as San Jose State held a late Bucknell rally for a 10-9 win in Saratoga, Calif. on Saturday afternoon.Â
The Spartans took a 2-0 lead after the first period and scored eight more goals in the second period to take a 6-1 advantage into the halftime break.
Cullen Jacuzzi managed to provide the only Bison goal of the first half.Â
The Bison chipped away at the Spartan lead in the third quarter, outscoring San Jose State 4-3 over the period with goals from Cooper Dolan, Jack Lewis, Rade Joksimovic, and Marko Djordjevic.Â
However, the Spartans still held onto an 9-5 lead entering the fourth period.Â
After a goal from the Spartans to open the fourth, four straight goals from the Bison brought Bucknell within one, 10-9, with three minutes to go in the contest. A goal each during the run was scored by Cooper Dolan, Joksimovic, Djordjevic, and Lewis.Â
However, the game would finish scoreless over the final three minutes for San Jose State to hold on to a 10-9 win.Â
Four Bison netted two times apiece: Djordjevic, Joksimovic, Dolan, and Lewis.Â
Djordjevic also contributed a game-high seven assists.Â
