CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 17 ranked Bucknell University men's water polo team opened up action at the Harvard Invitational with a narrow 10-8 decision over Wagner, the Bison's second win over the Seahawks in a week's time.
The Bison attack was paced by Marko Djordjevic, who netted four goals to lead all scorers on the day.
Although the Bison were outshot 35-27, Bucknell proved efficient, converting nearly 40 percent of its shots to secure the win.
It took just 12 seconds for the Bison to gain the lead, as Jack Lewis continued his strong run of form with a goal assisted by Djordjevic to give Bucknell an early advantage.
Two goals from Djordjevic on either side of a goal by Wagner's Vak Bulajic gave the Bison a 3-1 lead after the first period.
Bucknell extended its lead to 5-2 midway through the second period after Mitchell Scott found the back of the cage off of an assist from Lewis.
A goal scored by Rade Joksimovic helped Bucknell gain its biggest lead of the day, 9-5, with 2:45 left to go in the third. However, the Seahawks battled back with two straight scores to close the gap to 9-7 with 7:29 left in the fourth quarter.
Neither team could score over the next five minutes, until Lewis found the back of the net once again from Djordjevic to give Bucknell an insurance goal and round out the scoring for the Bison.
Wagner would score with 1:27 left to close the gap to two once more, but goalkeeper Jack Otto saved a shot from the Seahawks in the waning seconds to help Bucknell earn its sixth straight win.
Djordjevic finished with four goals and two assists to lead the Bison in points. Joksimovic and Lewis each added two goals. Otto finished with 12 saves.
