Jacob Stupak was Bucknell's Top Runner at the Meet
RESULTS
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Bucknell men's cross country had two runners finish in the top half of a stacked field at the Penn State National Open on Friday. The race included six nationally-ranked teams, another one that received votes in the national poll, and 10 teams from Power Five conferences.
Junior Jacob Stupak was Bucknell's top runner, taking 68th out of 206 runners. He finished the 5.2-mile race in 26:06.
Eastern Kentucky freshman James Sugira easily won the individual title, crossing the line in 24:40. That was nine seconds faster than the runner-up, Virginia Tech junior Peter Seufer, and 16 seconds better than the third-place runner, Arkansas senior Cameron Griffith.
Joining Stupak in the top half of the field was senior Chad Sussman in 100th. Rounding out Bucknell's scored runners were sophomore Connor McMenamin (107th), junior Brian Dengler (138th), and sophomore Evan Minor (171st).
No. 19 Virginia won the team title with a score of 61. The top three teams are nationally-ranked as No. 18 Eastern Kentucky was second and No. 16 Arkansas was third. No. 27 Iona, No. 29 Georgetown, and No. 30 Virginia Tech also competed.
Bucknell was 20th in the team standings, finishing ahead of Charleston Southern.
"We obviously weren't happy with the final result, but it was a super competitive meet," Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner said. "We actually aren't too far from being a competitive team. We had a couple guys run very well, a few run where they needed to be, but a couple struggled. In a meet like this, mistakes get exposed. We need those guys to bounce back and be ready for the league meet, and I am confident they will."
The Bison will send 10 runners to the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. They will then host the Bison Tuneup on Friday, Oct. 19.
