Bison Women's Soccer on Three-Game Win Streak
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's soccer team took a major leap north in the Patriot League table last week with matching 1-0 victories over Loyola and Holy Cross. Two of the catalysts in those strong performances were honored on Monday, as junior Theresa Adu-Attobrah notched her second Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week award of the season, and freshman forward Kate Henesey was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the first time.
Henesey recorded the Bucknell goal in each of the victories, marking her first two career goals. Against Loyola last Wednesday, she snapped a scoreless deadlock in the 75th minute. After the Greyhounds headed a shot off the line, Emilene Parham served the ball back into the goal mouth, and Henesey poked it past the goalkeeper for her first collegiate tally.
In the win over Holy Cross, it was an early goal from Henesey that broke the ice. In the 13th minute, her running volley off a cross from Bailey Hurst was the only goal Bucknell would need.
At the other end, the Bison defense was stout in both games. Adu-Attobrah played a critical role in the Loyola win when she made a diving save on a penalty kick in the first half. That kept the game scoreless, setting the stage for Henesey's late game-winner.
Adu-Attobrah made five saves against Loyola and four more against Holy Cross, giving her four clean sheets on the season. Bucknell has now gone 268 consecutive minutes without conceding.
Now 3-1 in Patriot League play after three straight wins, the Bison will travel to Princeton for a non-league game on Tuesday night before visiting Army West Point on Saturday evening.
