Men's Soccer Travels to Loyola, Hosts Holy Cross This Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Men's soccer looks to continue its strong start to Patriot League play when it travels to Baltimore Wednesday to play Loyola before returning home to Emmitt Field on Sunday, Sept. 7 against Holy Cross.

About the Bison
- Bucknell heads into the matchup 3-3-3 after a tie in Washington D.C. at American, a place that the Bison had not been able to earn a result since the 2014 season.
- The Bison start the league unbeaten after two games for the second time in the past three years.
- Bucknell's four points puts it in a four-way tie for second place in the Patriot League standings.
- The last time the Bison started Patriot League competition unbeaten in three games was the 2007 season in which Bucknell took home seven points out of a possible nine through its first three PL games.
- Two career firsts were established on Saturday, with freshmen Alex Clarke and Jacob Mittman notching their first career goal and assist, respectively.
- The goal from Clarke gave the Bison a 1-0 lead with just five minutes to go in the first half.
- The Bison defense almost tallied a fourth clean sheet of the season, but allowed a late equalizer to American with just over a minute left in the second half.
- The goal by the Eagles snapped a streak of over 207 minutes that the Bison had not allowed a goal.
- Goalkeeper Ryan Ott made seven saves, including one in the first overtime period to help the Bison earn the road point.

- The Patriot League preseason-favorite Greyhounds enter the matchup with a high-powered attack, netting 14 goals through their first eight games.
- Brian Samarago spearheads the Loyola attack, picking up five goals and four assists, with two of his goals being game-winners. The Greyhounds also boast the preseason Patriot League Midfielder of the Year Barry Sharifi, who has two goals and one assist so far.
- The Greyhounds overall had six players selected to the preseason All-Patriot League Team.
- Loyola has an unblemished record at home, winning twice against Rutgers and Mount St. Mary's, before tying Colgate in its most recent home fixture on Sept. 21.
- The Bison have won all six of their matchups against Loyola to date; with the most recent matchup a 1-0 Bison win in Lewisburg on Oct. 4, 2017.

- The Crusaders will face Boston University on Wednesday before traveling to Lewisburg to play the Bison on Sunday.
- Simon Becher leads the Holy Cross attack, picking up three goals and one assist. Max Krause has added two goals and an assist.
- Holy Cross has had seven different players find the back of the net this season.
- The Crusaders have scored ten goals while allowing 13. Eight of the goals Holy Cross has allowed have come in the second half.
- The series has remained close between the two teams over the years, with Bucknell holding a 12-10-6 advantage all-time. The Bison have taken three of the last five tilts, but Holy Cross won the last meeting in Worcester, 2-1.
- Wright netted for Bucknell in that game, while Ott made eight saves, one short of his career-high.
