CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Jared Cooper captured his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week award for his role in the Bucknell football team's 19-16 victory at Holy Cross, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Cooper posted 75 rushing yards on 24 carries, with all but 19 of his yards coming during the Bison's second-half surge. He added 15 receiving yards on four catches to finish with 90 all-purpose yards. For his efforts, he was awarded the Johnny Turco Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Player of the Crusaders' Homecoming Day Game.
The Bison took their first lead of the game on Cooper's first career touchdown, a 36-yard score at the third quarter's 9:25 mark. The freshman broke two tackles and then outraced two Crusaders to the end zone, giving Bucknell a 12-7 advantage. That 36-yard rush was a single yard shy of his career long, set during his first career start against Sacred Heart.
Cooper was previously honored as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week following the Pioneer game. He totaled a career-high 96 rushing yards on 15 carries and 28 receiving yards on two catches.
Cooper and the Bison return to Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. to face No. 20/21 Colgate, one of the four unbeaten teams remaining in the FCS.
